We help Connecticut communities build, test, and learn from Reef Ball projects.

An intact, biodiverse Connecticut coastline preserved for all, into the future. Coastal communities in Connecticut have long benefitted from Long Island Sound’s opportunities for work, education, and recreation. We’re supporting communities in their efforts to preserve those opportunities. By providing Reef Ball molds and financial support to qualifying groups, we’ve developed a cost-sharing approach to allow communities the chance to test Reef Ball installations, and lead the movement to restore Long Island Sound’s coastlines.

Our Vision

Why Reef Balls?

65% of Connecticut’s tidal wetlands have been lost due to natural erosion, human intervention, and sea level rise. Reef Balls help trap sediment, create reef habitat, and rebuild natural ecosystems. Constructed with pH-neutralized concrete, their hollow core and large pores also provide protection to fish and numerous marine species, like tautog, black sea bass, blue crabs, oysters, and many more.
